EDO2024: ENTER THE WAR HORSE

Major-General Charles Airhiavbere, wants to  ensure the cultural and historical integrity of the Edo people.

In a pamphlet titled "Edo State Movement and its Constitution," the historical roots and aspirations of Edo people for the creation of Edo State come to light. The foreword  sets the stage for understanding the genealogical affinity and shared origin that binds the diverse people of present-day Edo State.

Dating back to 1980, this pamphlet unveils the foresight of Edo's wise elders, who recognized the viability of the state based on its abundant natural resources. Notably, the document highlighted the potential for port development at Gelegele and Siluko, in Edo South Ilushi in Edo Central and Agenegbode in Edo North, showcasing a forward-thinking perspective on economic growth.

Described as one of the most organized states on the West Coast of Africa, Benin City served as the political, economic, and administrative headquarters for all Edo people. The document emphasizes the need for an "Edo Revival Programme: An Imperative Task," suggesting that the standardization and preservation of the Edo language, along with the revival and showcasing of rich cultural heritage, are crucial. 

Major-General Charles Airhiavbere, RTD, mni, in alignment with this vision, recognizes the significance of involving organized traditional institutions in decision-making processes for effective governance. This, he believes, is a key factor in ensuring the cultural and historical integrity of the Edo people.

Airhiavbere's mantra of a New Era of Hope for Edo aligns with the initial vision for the state's creation, emphasizing the importance of exploiting Edo's unique position in the Nigeria setup. As the only ethnic group with a personified symbol of unity and a history that surpasses many, he sees the urge in Edo people to review and rejuvenate their commitment to progress under a purposeful governor as leader.
